Breast Reduction
Breasts that are disproportionately large and heavy can be both embarrassing and physically challenging, keeping you from participating in a variety of activities. Many women have challenges finding clothes that fit correctly and often avoid many styles because they are worried it may draw too much attention to their breasts. Excessively large breasts can also create discomfort and strain in the neck, back and shoulders and in some cases skin irritation caused by bra straps on the shoulders on some patients. Dr. Natoli specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive breast procedures to help you look and feel your best.
Breast reduction surgery is covered by insurance where applicable.
Men can also suffer from excess breast tissue due to a condition called gynecomastia. Learn more here.
How Does Breast Reduction Surgery Work?
During your consultation with Dr. Natoli, she will perform a thorough examination and discuss your medical history, lifestyle and desired results. She’ll also use 3-D Vectra imaging technology, which can show you a computer-generated graphic image of the likely results by incorporating your photos and information. Each patient receives a personalized treatment plan designed to meet your needs and goals. During Breast reduction surgery, Dr. Natoli will create an incision – most often it’s an anchor-shaped incision from the area of the nipple down to the crease of the breast. Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin will be removed, and the nipple and areola will be repositioned. During the 2 to 4-hour procedure, the breasts are reshaped and the incisions are then closed. In some cases, liposuction may be utilized to eliminate excess fat from the armpit area. It’s also possible that liposuction alone may be the only technique necessary for breast reduction.
After a breast reduction, patients can expect some discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery, which can be reduced with medication. You will be fitted with a specialized bra designed to support your breasts after surgery and promote proper healing. Drainage tubes may be required by some patients to remove any excess fluid.
Patients typically resume normal daily routines about 2 weeks after breast reduction surgery. It is important to avoid heavy lifting or physical exertion including exercise for at least a month after surgery.
Dr. Natoli will be available to answer any questions and you will be scheduled for follow-up appointments and given post-operative instructions to aid in optimal recovery and results.
